Hevden, your last answer is correct. Well done! Red-tailed black cockatoo indeed!

Zoo giraffe, Javan Rhino, and Annaheim, you all get half a point for guessing the tawny.

Now we will have a smorgasbord of pics. Hevden, we eagerly await pics from you.
Chlidonias and Hix, we are still awaiting your pics too.

PS* Chlidonias, were those your guesses?

Ok try these.

OK, although these were photographed in Australian Zoos I've chosen species that are found in zoos throughout the world (in fairness to those not familiar with Australia's wonderful wildlife).

:p

Guess the Species

Second one of Hevden's is Purple-throated Fruit Crow, middle Hix is Nicobar Pigeon

Hevden's two are grey-sided laughing thrush (Garrulax caerulatus) and purple-throated fruit crow (Querula purpurata).

Hix's second and third are Nicobar pigeon and mangrove snake. The first one is a puzzler...I'm tentatively thinking binturong?

Its not a Grey-sided Laughingthrush but your right about the fruit crow

I'll go for chestnut-winged laughing thrush (Garrulax berthemyi) then....? It must be.

I didn't know any of the birds except the Nicobar pigeon, and I guess "krait" for the snake, but Google suggests that Mangrove Snake is correct.

Before reading Chlidonias's post, I would have guessed that the paw belongs to a bear-cat, however, I will hedge my bets and say something obscure - Lumholtz's tree kangaroo.

You have the internet, and Google, right?
I do, but it means I need to search my brain's memory banks for a likely species and then google it to see if it actually does match or not (there are a lot of species of laughing thrushes so just googling "laughing thrush" isn't going to help much). It's much easier with my Asian field guides but unfortunately they're all boxed away at the moment and I won't have access to them again for quite a long time :(

I'll post my photos when the current ones have been decided, because otherwise there will be too many going at once.

After 2 days, surely you can tell us whose paw that is? :)

Chlidonias, I think we need your entries to keep the thread going. :D

Umm, it's still only one day - and I felt sure more than two ZooChatters in the UK would be having a go.

If nobody's got it by tomorrow morning (Eastern Australia Time) then I'll tell you.

:p

Hix

...or a binturong either it seems? Maybe Hix is trying to double-bluff us.

I'm content to hold off posting my photos until after Hix has revealed his mystery mammal (or maybe its a perentie in a fur coat - he is a tricky one our Hix!). There's no rush after all.

I haven't confirmed anything yet - mammal, bird or reptile.

I can confirm nobody has named all three ... yet!

:p

There's no rush after all.

Every day brings us closer to our last, so there's always a rush. :p

I have a stack of pics that I have absolutely no idea what species they are, so I am eager to post some to get them identified by you lot. I am monitoring this thread (a) hoping I correctly identify a pic so I can post, or (b) waiting for a lull in posting so I can sneak in some of my own. Not only Hix is tricky. :D

PS* There are 2 pics for identification in the "The River" thread in the TV shows section.
