1) Of course I know what ROFL means.

2) We do not use Asiatic in America, it's considered offensive. This is only the second time I've ever even heard that word used outside of wildlife. The only other time was jb brought it up randomly on my big cats thread and it soon died after words.

I am genuinely shocked at the number of people who have been absolutely mind-blown when I told them that Russians, Indians, and Mongolians can be considered "Asians," too.

No, no - that wouldn't be fair. They're still recovering from their last mind explosions. We don't need them to suffer anymore.
 
What do you Yanks think about the golliwog pic I posted from the previous page? My former boss (who was American, and had recently moved to Australia) found it to be offensive, but he is the only one that ever commented on it.
 
I just came across this video again. I'd seen it years ago and honestly thought it was a spoof of creationists (Kirk Cameron being there certainly helped) but sadly I quickly discovered that these numbskulls were being genuine. Behold "the atheist's nightmare": the banana (apparently an erotic banana to boot!).

So I had another chat with another store manager about the sign. He bought in to the argument that 'exotic' here means 'non-white' if pasta has its own label. Anyway, the sign should be replaced soon. I'll keep you posted on whether they really remove the sign or not.

I have not been to that supermarket since, but I went to the other major Australian supermarket (Coles) which was a block away. Now at least their signage is a bit better.

Update: After seeing no change in the sign, I lodged an official complaint through the supermarket's website yesterday, and today, bright and early I got a call from the Manager.

He apologised for the sign and said that it will be removed immediately as they had no intention of being offensive or racist. :D He also commented that technically every single food in the supermarket is 'ethnic food' (i.e. food associated with different ethnicities) so it was unfair to single out just Asian and Mexican food as being 'ethnic'.

Not a bad result! Let's see what the new sign says.

There are several videos in the series and so far he's also done animals like the Aye-Aye, Naked Mole Rat, and even the sea pig and tapir. They are quite clever and comical.
