Are some zoos getting rid of pygmy hippos because Brookfield Zoo plans on getting a male to breed also.
I don't know about the hippos... I think they would replace the crocodiles in a few years. For the eland... I'm pretty sure they're Giant eland, but I don't know. I will be going to the zoo in a few weeks and I will post pictures.@JBZBONGO: If the zoo did get pygmy hippos, where would they be on exhibit? would they do a mix species exhibit in the old river hippo exhibit with the African slender-snouted crocodiles. that would be cool. and did you ever find out what species of eland they have now?
About 40 wild breeding pairs of black-crowned night herons have taken up residence at the Detroit Zoo. Their rookery is located behind Sweet Treats across from the new crocodile habitat.
I saw you post that on Facebook! Lol!The zoo has 2 common eland and there both still in quarantine. They will be in with the warthogs and they will be out mid July. The zoo got back to me on Facebook. What happened to the tapirs? What exhibit were they in?
